I Tested 5 "Luxury" Towel Brands. Only One Felt Like a Five-Star Hotel.

Elena Moore ยท Home Designer

Let me save you the money and the disappointment.

Over the past few years, I've tried $40 Target towels, $60 Parachute towels, $30 Amazon Basics sets, $50 Boll & Branch towels, and finally, a brand I had never heard of that kept showing up in my feed.

Four disappointments. One clear winner. Here's the breakdown:

Note: Read this BEFORE you replace your towels again.

Onuia โ€” 10/10

600โ€“800 GSM. Zero-twist Egyptian Cotton. This is the spec that actual five-star hotels use, the kind where you've thought about stealing the towels. The zero-twist weave is the key difference: it's why these get softer with every wash instead of rougher. Currently up to 60% off.

You can shop their full collection here.

Target โ€” 2/10

300 GSM at best. That's thinner than what most budget hotels use. The cotton quality breaks down after just a handful of washes, leaving you with lint on your body and a towel that barely absorbs.

Boll & Branch โ€” 5/10

Good cotton, but their towels sit around 500 GSM, standard hotel weight, premium price tag. You're paying $60+ per towel for what's essentially the same quality as a Marriott bathroom.

Parachute โ€” 6/10

The closest competitor. Decent weight, nice hand-feel out of the box. But they use a standard twist weave, which means the softness peaks on day one and slowly declines from there.

Amazon Basics โ€” 3/10

Looks fine on day one. By month three, the fibers have flattened and you've lost most of the absorbency. At ~400 GSM, these are built to a price point, not a quality standard.

Out of every brand I tested, Onuia was the only one that matched what I have felt in five-star hotels. The rest either fell apart after a few washes or charged premium prices for average quality. If you are going to spend money on towels, spend it once and spend it right.

They are currently running up to 60% off with free shipping and a 30-day guarantee.

I was skeptical too. But with free shipping and a 30-day guarantee, there's nothing to lose.
